Rescue of PT-48
This page will be utilized to record the ongoing project of relocating PT-48
to Kingston, NY until our new historian gets a  website devoted exclusively
to PT-48 off the ground.

This has been a huge undertaking by Tim Ivory and his crew who have put
countless hours into this project. The boat was found in a very fragile state
and required a very creative approach to get her safely secured for the trip
North. To accomplish this task, a custom cradle was built up in Kingston,
disassembled, loaded on to a truck and delivered to the site down in Florida.

Tim and his team were then flown down to Florida and upon their arrival,
went right into action. The boat was raised off the ground with an air bag
system and the cradle was then reassembled under the boat's fragile hull.
The boat was then gently lowered on to the cradle. Keep in mind that Tim
designed this cradle so that each piece weighed no more than 200 pounds
requiring only 2 men to lift.

PT 48 is now at rest in Kingston, NY awaiting restoration. She arrived in
Kingston on Friday 1/23/09. If anyone has any photos they would like to
share, please e-mail them to us and we will be happy to post them along
with a photo credit.

There are plans to create a documentary film on the rescue and restoration
efforts. Fleet Obsolete is currently searching for a film company that would
be interested in the job.
